Celebrating the Music of the Seasons
Singing captures all of the facets of the human spirit and allows a type of expression
which transcends caste, social strata and culture.
Peter, Mary Alice, and George will present a year's worth of song and celebration
stemming from many different communities and the shared cycles of life. From
dark to light, from Winter through Fall, all of the earth's seasons can be found
described in song.
Of Preparation and waiting...
The morning session will be devoted to the sacred and secular mix which
is Advent, Christmas, the winter solstice and the colder months.
The harvest is in. The earth prepares for winter. Gradually the days shorten
and nights grow ever longer. The communities gather for warmth and solace against
the darkness. Soon it will be time for the lighting of candles and the singing
of songs to bring back the sun.
Of Growth and rebirth...
The afternoon session will explore music used for celebration and ritual during
the warmer months and the rest of the year. The yearly story continues. Finally,
the warmth of Spring brings back life to the trees and flowers. There is rebirth.
Time to plant. Time to sing for joy and thanksgiving.
